Tips
To increase the likelihood of treatment success, we need your active participation in this treatment program. Please read carefully and follow the recommendations listed below.
It will make a difference.
DO's
- DO complete the schedule of treatments as recommended by your Treatment Center Clinician. A large number of patients get a positive response well into the treatment program.
- DO practice a positive mental attitude. Medical studies have shown patients with less stress and a positive mental outlook always respond better to medical treatments.
- DO drink at least six glasses of water a day, as recommended by Canada’s Food Guide. Proper hydration is important.
- DO rest after treatments when your body is telling you that it is tired. Listen to your body. Restorative sleep and relaxation are essential to allow your body to work towards improvements. Baby your painful joints.
- DO follow good dietary practices. Get to know which foods can potentially trigger an increase in joint irritation and those you should avoid.
- DO follow our recommendations on the use of effective health supplements.
- DO your home exercise program. With movement and exercise the body lubricates the joints. Muscle strengthening when appropriate provides support to the joints.
- DO call us and book an appointment immediately if you over exert yourself or if the pain returns before your next scheduled treatment.
DON'Ts
- DO NOT increase your level of activity quickly or return too soon to doing that what you were avoiding before - just because you are feeling better. Increase your activities gradually and in moderation.
- DO NOT be discouraged by what might appear to be a setback, when in fact it might be a sign of a positive change. Communicate with your ATCA Physical Therapists and Kinesiologists before drawing any conclusions.
- DO NOT make any changes in your medication without consulting your doctor. The ATCA program works well in conjunction with your current prescribed medications.
- DO NOT allow stress to have a negative influence on your life. Practice positive mental attitude and use principles of body relaxation.
- DO NOT isolate yourself from others when you are experiencing pain. Develop friendships; talk with your friends, family and the ATCA healthcare team.
- DO NOT wait more than 4 weeks without a treatment once you have completed the first phase of the ATCA Program. Coming to the clinic only when your pain has returned and is intense will increase the need for more frequent treatments.
- DO NOT wait and suffer needlessly! We are here to help.
